Loving the Beginning: Don't Let Them Rush You
Apr 19, 2025
I've never had the patience to decant a wine.
Nor do I have the taste buds to discern decanted from not decanted.
Also, wine gives me a headache.
When it comes to starting a business - whether it's supporting yours, or reinventing my own - it's another story.
Stepping into your calling is a sacred moment.
It's a liminal space between what you've always done (and probably been told to do), and courageously saying, "This is what I was born for".
I will never forget the very exact precise moment I was called to coaching, in 2012. But that's another story.
I bet you can remember the moment the universe planted that seed - or maybe, the seed was there, and the universe delivered the conditions for it to blossom.
And so you made investments and had conversations. Maybe you had to take a loan (I did). Maybe you had to convince a partner or parent. Maybe you had to figure out how to work your 9-5 less so you could get home to your certification classes on time. Maybe you had to lock kids out of the room and listen to those calls in a closet (I did).
Whatever you did, however you got here, it may have felt inevitable to you.
To the rest of the world, it wouldn't even be a thought.
But you - something in you - had a seed, it blossomed, and you couldn't have it any other way.
Whether you're quietly determined or bold and out there - you had the spark and you followed it.
That is courageous.
At the threshold of beginning a business, honoring that space and shift in identity is mission critical.
But the world wants to intrude on that. The world wants you to join the 6-figures in a week program or the overnight success program or whatever.
I believe new businesses deserve to decant.
Are they delicious and will the give you a buzz right out of the bottle? Sure.
And, a business that is allowed to decant finds its full flavor.
Magic happens. Alchemy. When it's allowed to breathe, for its color to be admired, something deeper and richer happens.
It's okay to let it breathe.
It's okay to take your time to discover, explore, redesign.
It's okay to follow the magic.
It's okay not to niche.
It's okay to do things that make no sense but light you up.
It's okay to follow the glow in the dark breadcrumbs that don't seem to lead anywhere.
Follow the magic. Honor your identity shift. Let the space be sacred.
You never get the first years back again. You don't have to rush. You get to do this your way.
Isn't that the point?
Defy the odds,
JJ
